With the fall/winter cruising season starting soon, now is the time to grab this cruise-ready boat that is already in Mexico! She is ready to go this season.
S/V Cassiopeia is a 1997 Bavaria 46E (Exclusive), a classic performance cruiser. She has crossed the Atlantic multiple times, cruised the Caribbean, made the passage down the US west coast from Seattle to Mexico, and cruised the Sea of Cortez and mainland Mexico.
Built to German Lloyds GL-100 AF (ALL OCEAN) specifications before boat builders decided those specs were too expensive, she is solid, with many features indicative of a boat ready for challenging conditions.
Cassiopeia is very comfortable on the water, at anchor, and at dock. Seeing her in person allows you to experience the 6′ 6″ headroom and the open, roomy feel the 14’ 8” beam provides. She has a spacious custom owner layout, with a large centerline stateroom master berth forward (approximately a California King-size, with latex mattresses installed in June 2020) with its own head and lots of storage. No crawling over each other to get into bed!
There are two (almost) queen-size berths aft sharing a common head with full shower. (In the photos below, is the starboard aft cabin, the port side cabin is a mirror image–it currently has storage boxes 🙂 ) She comfortably sleeps 6.
The straight-line galley is amidships with a top-loading frig, recessed compartment for the induction hotplate, and counter area for the Instant-Pot. Dual sinks with single handle faucet. Lots of counter and storage space.
Beautiful salon and table, bench has underneath storage, table includes a beautiful inlayed cover hiding a wine storage area. Seating for up to ten (10) adults for entertaining.
Eighty-five (85) pound Mantus anchor and all chain rode mean secure anchoring for a restful night’s sleep on the hook and peace of mind when you are off the boat exploring. Sugar scoop swim step and ladder allow easy access to and from the water for swimming and snorkeling, and the fresh water shower (hot & cold) is right there to rinse off! Wide side decks for safety moving for and aft and provide great places to relax and lay in the sun or watch dolphins while at anchor or under way.
Ten foot inflatable RIB dinghy with 2-stroke 15 HP Yamaha outboard mean you can get around quickly and up-on-plane with 2 people and your groceries.
Lithium house bank (550 Ahr) and 790W of solar allows to you to be off-grid without being concerned about running out of power. Run the engine and a 170 Amp Balmar alternator charges the housebank. All lights are LED for energy efficiency.
We’ve kept Cassiopeia maintained for cruising. The bottom paint is < 2 years old, and still protecting. All through hulls replaced Dec 2021.
Never chartered, her original owner commissioned her for racing on Lake Constance in Germany. Hence, the control line layout where everything runs to the cockpit and the full complement of winches. The two primaries are 2 speed electric. The roller car sail track for the mainsail allows for easy raising and lowering (especially with the incorporated lazy jacks and stack pack). It also facilitates reefing.
All the boat electronics, lighting, and most systems are powered by 12V, including the water maker and all the water pumps. There are 12V USB plugins in every berth on the light fixtures and in the cockpit and the the salon.
B&G MFD and Halo 20+ radar, AIS transceiver, Raymarine instruments; all available instrument data is on the NMEA2000 backbone and broadcast via Wifi, so your phone or tablet can receive and use it for Navionics, iNavx or whatever navigation app you prefer.
The boat was built and wired in Germany for 230V, the norm in Europe, the Caribbean and most of the world. The 230V inverter powered by the Lithium house battery bank provides 230V to outlets through out the boat. These can be used to power almost everything you use. Most electronic devices (cell phones, tablets, laptops, etc.) are powered/charged by adapters that are designed to be used with either 110V or 230V, because they are sold and used all over the world. This includes StarLink (we used one on the boat). All that is necessary is an outlet adapter, and we have those on the boat already. As described in the specifications, there are several 230V appliances included. The hot water heater is powered by 230V from the inverter, or 240V shore power when that is available (50 amp plugin).
The boat was professionally wired by an electrician to also allow a 110V-60 Hz outlet for things like hair dryers, vacuums, tools, etc., and to power the 110V battery charger to charge the Lithium house bank when on shore power in the US or MX. If 30 amp is available at the dock, there are adapters to allow the 50A power cord to be connected to the 30A receptacle on the power pedestal.
We lived aboard full-time for 6 years and enjoyed 3 years in Mexico. We prepared her for cruising Mexico and beyond. Life and family changes require us to sell her to new owners who can continue to care for and enjoy this beautiful boat.
